Guo Ru is a sophomore from Phillips Academy Andover. He currently studies violin under Prof. Peter Zazofsky at New England Conservatory Preparatory School. He has served as the concertmaster of the Northeastern District Senior Orchestra and the Principal Second Violin in the Massachusetts All-State Orchestra.
Before coming to the U.S., Guo attended Sydney Conservatorium of Music’s Rising Stars program under merit scholarship and received the prestigious Licentiate Diploma of Music Australia (LMusA) in violin. He has also studied with Kimberly Fisher, the cofounder of Philadelphia International Music Festival and Principal Second Violin of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Guo has won first prizes in numerous music competitions, including the American Protégé Music Talent Competition with Judge’s Distinction and the New York Young Virtuoso Competition. He has appeared as a soloist with the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra and been invited to perform at major concert halls in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Singapore, Japan, and Canada. When touring the UK, Italy, the Holy Sea, and the West Balkans, he performed in diverse venues such as the Royal Academy of Music, Postojna Caves, Croatian National Theatre, and Teatro Pacini.
Guo has been performing music in aged-care and hospitals from a young age. At Phillips Academy, he gives free weekly lessons to children from disadvantaged communities and composes and conducts music to raise environmental awareness and improve mental health.
