Sound Espressivo helps UNICEF provide help to children in Ukraine. SEC is the first online LIVE streaming Competition for musicians of all ages. Contestants and judges focus on unique artistry of every performer, awarding prizes offered by music management companies. Donate to UNICEF Follow us on socials! Big thank you to all supporters! We are extremely grateful everyone who donated funds, produced the event, helped get the public aware and informed. The Fundraiser was a great tribute to human empathy and collaboration. This campaign is now closed CHICAGO’S UKRAINIAN INSTITUTE FOR MODERN ART PARTNERS WITH VIRTUAL CONCERT HALLS TO HOST A LIVE GLOBAL INTERNET BROADCAST TO BENEFIT UNICEF USA All Funds Raised will Support Emergency and Humanitarian Aid for Ukrainian Families and Children Suffering from the Devastation of War Wednesday, April 13, 2022 6:00am-11:59pm EST/EDT Chicago -- On April 13, 2022, the Ukrainian Institute for Modern Art (UIMA) is partnering with Virtual Concert Halls (VCHS) , a Virginia-based ITV producer, to host a global online fundraising effort to benefit UNICEF USA, who are committed to providing emergency aid to families and children in Ukraine. The event will stream to multiple social media platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Twitch and LinkedIn. Virtual Concert Halls will take the 18-hour live Internet Web stream from 5:00 a.m. to 11 p.m. CT from the Institute’s gallery and distribute it live to major social media platforms. Virtual Concert Halls streams live events from all over the world and are experts at streaming simultaneously on multiple social media platforms. Throughout the broadcast, news anchors will interview a wide variety of people who are close to the situation in Ukraine including historians, scholars, lawmakers, young Ukrainian refugees who recently arrived in Chicago, among others. UNICEF has been in Ukraine for 25 years—and it is on the ground now, delivering safe water, health and hygiene supplies, blankets, warm clothes and psycho-social care to children and their families. Security is especially crucial during this time when many children and youth are separated from their families which leaves them in indescribably vulnerable. Donations are accepted any time before, during, and after the live stream. According to a recent statement by UNICEF USA, two million children have now been forced to flee Ukraine, as the war rages on. “The situation inside Ukraine is spiraling,” said UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell. “As the number of children fleeing their homes continues to climb, we must remember that every single one of them needs protection, education, safety and support.” In a joint statement, Motria Melnyk, President of the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art and Marta Farion, Vice President said, "The war in Ukraine is breaking all of our hearts and so the opportunity to make our facility the staging area for this amazing fundraising effort was enthusiastically welcomed by our board and staff." In addition to her work at the Ukrainian Institute, Farion is also the president of the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation of America. Virtual Concert Halls co-founder, Anna Ouspenskaya, said, “We are deeply touched and honored to be included in this project. People on our team come from different continents and backgrounds, but many of us share one thing in common: we carry scars and pains of being raised in the countries of the former Soviet bloc, or have relatives who endured the horrors of that terrible regime. Working on this project is the least we can do for Ukrainians who are enduring unimaginable pain. My colleagues at VCHS and I myself are putting our whole hearts into this effort.” HELPING UNICEF IN UKRAINE Internet Broadcast is spearheaded by veteran public radio broadcaster, Steve Robinson, President of New Media Productions. In 2003 for the victims of the tsunami and again in 2010 for victims of the earthquake in Haiti, Steve organized all-day fundraisers in involving virtually all Chicago television and radio stations that each raised $3 million in humanitarian assistance. “I hope this 18-hour continuous stream raises millions of dollars for UNICEF in this emergency,” Robinson said. ABOUT UNICEF: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) works in more than 190 countries and territories to pursue a more equitable world for every child. UNICEF has helped save more children’s lives than any other humanitarian organization, by providing health care and immunizations, safe water and sanitation, nutrition, education, emergency relief and more. UNICEF USA advances the global mission of UNICEF by rallying the American public to support the world’s most vulnerable children. Together, we are working toward a world that upholds the rights of all children and helps every child thrive. For more information, visit www.unicefusa.org. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Heritage and Harmony: Silver Linings, an Album Spotlighting Music by Under- Represented Composers, Will Be Released on May 1st New EP Featuring AAPI/BIPOC Artists Aims to Promote Understanding and Tolerance and Combat Racism New York, NY—April 26, 2021 On May 1st, pianist and music producer Donna Weng Friedman will be releasing the EP album Heritage and Harmony: Silver Linings. The album, which will be available on Spotify, Amazon, Tidal and other online outlets, is intended as a response to the wave of violence against Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) individuals, and aims to promote understanding and tolerance among people of all backgrounds. It features Ms. Weng Friedman and soprano Indira Mahajan performing music by composers Margaret Bonds, Beata Moon, Florence B. Price, and Chinary Ung. The performers and composers are all members of the AAPI and/or BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) communities. https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/donnawengfriedman/heritage-and-harmony-silver-linings The album’s release date is timed to coincide with the start of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. “I am an Asian American concert pianist, and like so many of us, my heart aches from the ongoing hate crimes against our AAPI community,” says Ms. Weng Friedman. “Each piece on this EP album helped get me through the pandemic year, which started with my being assaulted on the street of New York City for being Asian, and ended with my entire family getting sick with COVID-19.” All proceeds from the album will be donated to the Korean American Community Foundation (KACF) an organization that supports the AAPI community through philanthropy and education. “The KAFC is committed to fighting for diversity, equity and inclusion, and will not tolerate racism on any level,” notes Ms. Weng Friedman. “I learned an incredible amount from their virtual information sessions, talks and panels over the last year.” She adds, “My hope is that this album will resonate with people of all ethnicities who are looking for a way to help support our AAPI community. By listening to each track on Heritage and Harmony: Silver Linings, they can enjoy the glorious music of incredible but under-represented BIPOC composers and musicians while also making a small but valuable contribution to the AAPI community.” For more information, contact: Donna Weng Friedman donnawengfriedman@gmail.com 播放影片 播放影片 48:58 Mio Imai, violin - Sound Espressivo Laureates' Recital Accompanied by Mark Livshits, piano 3:16 Lalo - Symphonie Espagnole (I. Building relationship between musicians from all other the world: a great new way of sharing between all of us! Apply by November 30 https://www.soundespressivocompetition.com/home Olivier Chassain was born in Paris in 1957. He began studying the guitar in Limousin with Roger Généraux and completed his training with Carel Harms. In 1977, he entered the Conservatory of Paris (the current Cnsmdp) where he obtained in 1982 a first prize for guitar in the class of Alexandre Lagoya; he was also awarded a prize for counterpoint (class of Bernard de Crépy) and a prize for harmony (class of Roger Boutry). Today, his triple professional activity makes him lead simultaneously: a career as a concert performer, which took on an international dimension when he won the first prize in the "Guitar Foundation of America international competition" in 1988, thus becoming the first non-American guitarist to receive the highest distinction of this competition worldwide renamed. The following year (in 1989) he made a major tour organized by the GFA, across the entire North American continent: he was invited there regularly for concerts and master-classes, as well as on other continents. a career as a composer: he is the author of numerous works, in particular for guitar, such as: “ Fantastic echoes ” i n memoriam I. Presti and A.Lagoya , “ Etoiles ”, “ Arion ”, “ De loin en loin ”, sonata for two guitars (1995), “ Doigts de fées ” (2010) for flute and guitar, sonata for solo guitar (2011)…, and educational collections such as “ Patchwork ”, “ Ad hoc ”, “ Brèves de lectern ”(2012)… a teaching career which took off in Orléans in 1978, following his first teacher, Roger Généraux (he was established after obtaining his CA at the age of 21), and which saw its accomplishment when he was appointed in 1992 at the Jacques Thibaud Conservatory in Bordeaux, then in 1994 to succeed his master Alexandre Lagoya, as guitar teacher at the Paris National Conservatory of Music and Dance (Cnsmdp), where he still teaches today. Olivier Chassain regularly leads, in addition to his conservatory lessons, instrumental improvement sessions within the framework of festivals, summer academies, as was notably the case in Dordogne from 1995 to 2010, at the Britten school in Périgueux directed by Jean-Jacques Rouveroux: this institute organized ad hoc courses throughout the year in all musical disciplines, and called on internationally renowned artists. Olivier Chassain thus had, for his summer internship, the opportunity to invite many friends, renowned guitarists, such as J. Cogan, N. Koshkin, SI. Fukuda, B. Kanengiser, D. Bogdanovic, SE Olsen, F. Zigante, L. Blanquart, H. Navez, Jim Smith. Since 2010, it has been organizing new sessions in Limousin, throughout the year. Olivier Chassain's repertoire displays a great eclecticism, from the Renaissance to the music of today. Passionate about early music, he has also devoted himself to the lute and the vihuela for many years, in order to transmit through this privileged approach the sound and the spirit of this music. He is also fond of French music from the Grand Siècle and romantic music, which he plays alone or in the company of eminent artists such as P. Gallois, Ph. Muller, P.-H. Xuereb, R. Pidoux, E. Aubier, F. Pierre, G. Millière ... Ardent defender of contemporary creation, Olivier Chassain is the dedicatee of numerous works for guitar (Stephen Dodgson, Antonio Ruiz-Pipo, Thierry Pécou, Sean Heim) and of concertos: "Escales" by Roland Creuze: created in Bordeaux with the ensemble Musique Nouvelle and Michel Fusté-Lambezat, as well as that of Edith Lejet, "Flowers in the shape of diamonds", from the concerto by Alain-Michel Riou, and more recently by Alain Margoni. Olivier Chassain has made several records, under different labels, including "Almost a song" (Metronome recordings) which was crowned with the "Choc" of the World of Music, and "Eventail" by the review Classica. An album devoted to the complete compositions of Ida Presti - the world's first recording -, in duet with the Norwegian guitarist Stein-Erik Olsen, received a rave reception from music critics (ranked in the 'top 5' of the 10 best albums classics of 2009 in Scandinavia), under the Simax label. Several other recordings are in the pipeline, including a second album with his friend SE Olsen, for the Simax label, in a repertoire of original works dedicated to the Duo Presti-Lagoya. 播放影片 播放影片 43:59 Simon Yao, piano - Sound Espressivo Laureates' Recital Program: Bach - French Suite No.6 in E major, BWV 817 3:37 Allemande, 5:06 Courante 6:02 Gigue 7:51 Schubert - Impromptu in E-flat Major, Op. 90 No. 2 13:17 Chopin - Fantaisie-Impromptu in C-sharp minor, Op. 66 19:11 Alyabyev/Liszt - Nightingale 24:19 Prokofiev - Prelude in C Major, Op. 12 No. 7 "The Harp" 27:05 Debussy - Jardins Sous La Pluie (Gardens in the Rain), from Estampes Simon Yao, 9 years old, is a fourth-grade student from Southern California. He started taking violin lessons at the age of 5 and a half with Olga Khroulevitch at the Levine School of Music in Washington, DC, moving later to Peter Sirotin and then to Rafail Sobolevsky and Oleg Rylatko, concertmaster of the Washington National Opera House Orchestra in Washington D.C. He studied with Naoko Tanaka at the Juilliard School, Oleg Rylatko at National Symphony Orchestra Fellowship program, and with Aaron Rosand privately. He also studied conducting with Maestro Mark McCoy and Maestro Glaser. Fedor is a devout promoter of classical music: in 2009 he became one of the founding performer-members of Arts Are For All Ages, a non-profit organization in Washington DC area, which provides classical music concerts to retirement communities. The organization’s membership consists mainly of high school young musicians, who volunteer their performances, and has grown to over 50 active performer-members and is providing about 70 concerts per year. Teaching young musicians is another of Fedor’s passions: he has taught students of different ages and levels, he also coached young violinists in preparation for youth and school orchestra auditions. Fedor loves methodical approach to teaching, and he has built a system of individual plans and written follow-up assignments which he gives to his students to help them make better use of their practicing time. At the age of 8, Fedor was invited to perform an Accolay concerto with McLean Youth Symphony Orchestra, since then he appeared as a soloist performing concertos with Loudoun Symphony Orchestra in Virginia, Bachanalia Chamber Orchestra in New York City and Capitol City Symphony in Washington DC. Fedor had attended Russian Embassy School, Cooper Middle School and South Lakes HS. He finished 3 years at the Juilliard School in New York City, NY. Fedor Ouspensky is the Creative Producer at Virtual Concert Halls and has been a Producer and Director of Sound Espressivo Competition Broadcasts and Live Rounds since 2020. 播放影片 播放影片 53:41 "There is nothing healthy or positive about competitions" Is this true? We started our 8am Broadcasts with the question of “How to choose competitions?” and we end our series of 8am Broadcasts by debating the validity, utility, and necessity of competitions. Are there too many? Is it just a money-making machine? Are we making sport out of music? Is Chopin rolling in his grave realizing his music is being used for competitions? www.soundespressivocompetition.com “There is nothing healthy or positive about competitions” “Beethoven would be rolling in his grave if he knew his music was being used in contests” “Music should not be used as pit musicians against one another” Do you agree with these statements?
